Adobe Photoshop has all the necessary means to get almost a real desert storm on simple picture only in several minutes.
Open our picture. I used this image: Desert stop from Flickr.
Select for the beginning the sandy color as a working color one and approximately the same color for the background color, but it needs to be a little darker than the first nuance.
Make a click on the icon Create a new layer on the Layers palette.
The new layer that we’ve got must be processed with the filter’s option from here: Filter > Render > Clouds. This way the layer will be filled with a texture of sandy color.
Next we need to transform this texture into sand. In this case open the filter’s window
Filter > Noise > Add Noise, give to Amount option the value of 12%. Mark Distribution as Gaussian and check the Monochromatic and finally press OK.
This way the layer looks like consisting of a lot of small grains of sand.
Select next step in the menu the selection Filter > Blur > Motion Blur to scatter on the grains of sand in the wind. Set the wind’s direction in the Angle field. Select the 10 value for the Distance field, for ex. and press OK.
